The grey light seeped into the dark, damp room. A fast breathing was smothered underneath a heavy duvet, making it almost inaudible.
"U-uh..." Amber's lip trembled and her whole body quaked with pure fear. She was too nervous about the events to come to even speak.
"Amber!" Her mother called impatiently up the stairs, dressed in a pressed suit and holding a clipboard to her side; her lips painted red with lipstick and her hair in a tight bun.
"U-uh..." Amber couldn't say any more than those three words as she slowly emerged from the bedclothes. Nothing on earth could look so worn; her blonde hair limp, her eyes dull with tiredness, deep dark shadows beneath them. Her skin was white as paper.
Emotionless, she threw open the curtains and looked out at the rain, sparkling with mist and fine dust. Taking off her pajamas and pulling on her perfect outfit, she thought for a while.
Her mother did her hair in a ponytail, as buns really weren't Amber's style.
"Luke..." Amber whispered almost silently, but her mother had caught on.
"Never mind Luke, Amber." Her mother said sharply.
"I have to!" Amber protested, swatting at her mother's hands angrily. "He's my boyfriend."
"Never mind him!" spat her mother, almost hissing as she pushed her daughter out of the door.
Later, Amber was messing with her phone; aka texting Luke. Her mother snatched it off her as they got in the car- the car that would take her to Camp Freako, as Amber called the place.
"Why do I have to go to this place?" Amber asked for the fiftieth time.
"Luke's ruined you. You need a break." Her mother replied shortly.
"IT'S CALLED BEING IN LOVE! WHAT WOULD YOU KNOW? YOU NEVER LOVED DAD! HE WAS A GAME TO YOU. I DON'T WANT TO BE A VICTIM OF YOUR SICKLY MIND GAMES!" Amber opened the car door, got out and ran.
Ran away from the person who never wanted her, and on to the path leading to places unknown.
