This is a story about a girl, a teenager, with a family. Her name is Anne.
She loves her parents, Maria and Joseph. The doctor and the political advisor.
She loves her brothers, James and Matthew. The tech-savvy twelve year old and the imaginative, car-crazy nine year old.
She hates her sister, Cate. The thirteen year old with ADHD, kleptomania, anxiety and depression.
Cate steals Anne's things. Cate yells at Anne for no reason. Cate hurts Anne everyday-- verbally and physically.
Anne knows better than to retaliate, but the pressure builds. It builds so much that she yells, hits and steals, too.
Anne get in trouble. Cate doesn't. Cate doesn't get in trouble because, "Anne knows better.". Anne's mother would say that to Cate whenever Cate cried. Cate cried too much.
Sometimes, Cate would get on Anne's better side. The two would watch movies, talk, laugh and behave like actual sisters. But like I said: Sometimes.
Years and years of bantering and bickering, throwing things and thrashing at each other's consciousness. That can add up to something big. Something bloody.
