Chapter 1: Alaiah

I sat down at my desk and started to work on my latest novel,Poisoned Flowers, when I heard a knock at the door, I looked up from writing to see my assistant, Jennifer- or Jen, as I like to call her, standing at the door, waiting for permission to come in.

"Ms. Rodriguez?"

"Call me Alaiah, Jen. What is it?"

"Well, I just got off the phone with your publisher and he said that you have 4 months until the draft needs to be done or they're going to cut you and you'll have to find a new publisher, and we both know how hard that is to do..." She trailed off.

"Well, I just got finished writing chapter 3, so I should probably be finished with the draft in 4 months."

"Okay! Perfect! I'll go call him back and tell him that!"

"No, no, no. We're gonna let him think I can't do it and when I do, he'll be so blown away that he will be speechless!" I said with a smirk on my face.

"Ooh, devious, I like it!" I laughed, Jen could be so serious at times and so weird at the next, that's why she's always been my assistant, even when things need to be serious, she lightens up the mood.

"Hey, do you think you could go get me some extra paper? You never know when you might need it,"

"Right away, Ms. Rod- oh, I mean, Alaiah." She smiled.

"Oh, and Jen?"

"Yes?"

"Once you're finished with that, take the rest of the day off, I can handle everything just fine,"

"Thanks, Alaiah!" She said as she walked out the door.

As soon as she walked out of the door, I sat down at my desk and put my face in my hands, I hope this stress isn't getting to me, no need for an emotional breakdown now.
